Project Overview

The Ferrule Force Measurement Machine is a device which measures the force on a fiber optic connector end-face as the ferrule is compressed. The device detects when ferrules stick, and ensures that ferrule travel and ferrule mating forces are within specifications.

Mechanical Design

Our staff member provided the Mechanical Design services required to create the device, and to create numerous adapters for various connector styles.

Control System Design

Our staff member provided the Control System Design services required to control the motion of the device and to acquire the force and displacement data.

Software Development

Our staff member provided the Software Development services using VB.NET to create a Windows application which provides a user interface, and which controls the device. The application uses TCP/IP communications to control the motion of the device and RS-232 communications to acquire displacement and force information from the digital indicator and force gauge.
