Project Overview

The Data-Tape Pin Press Machine is a machine which inserts steel pins and standoffs into the aluminum base plate of a cassette tape used for storing computer data. The machine uses a standard cam driven machine base with multiple stations, each inserting a pin at a different location. The angle of the base plates is measured and controlled to ensure perpendicularity between the pin and the base plate.

In addition to designing the tooling for each station, our staff member analyzed the motion of the insertion mechanism to validate the design.
